Artist Statement:

Amber is the hardened stage of many resin-producing trees. This gooey, golden sap is a form of protection for the tree that becomes a permanent prison for unwitting insect creatures who get stuck in it, simply going about their lives along its limbs. I find this both tragic and fascinating, as nature continues to amaze me with its seemingly bottomless pit of horrors.

I also deeply resonate with the tragedy of being trapped and suspended in time, as I await an end to my chronic GI illness that has plagued and paused my life for almost 2 years now. Chronic illness has manifested feelings of being cocooned in an unkind tomb, housed in a body that betrays, and existing in a liminal, temporary holding hell. I tried my best to capture these emotions in the visuals for this release.

These two compositions were primarily composed for solo Greek bouzouki in 2018, but I had been slowly crafting appropriate soundscapes and string arrangements for them over the years. The finished works apply flesh and bone to the initial skeletons, as well as execute my vision of creating a powerful form of escape through sound.
